Biomaterials (Compulsory – 8 ECTS)

Our Biomaterials course familiarizes students with state-of-the-art biomaterials, their classifications and clinical applications. This entails an overview of their structure, bulk and surface properties, as well as an introduction to foreign body reactions and how these materials interact with the human immune system. Requirements of biomaterials, such as biocompatibility and bio-degeneration are discussed and analyzed in relation to their intended medical applications. Students are also trained on concepts such as materials design, biomimetics and function by structure, as well as testing of biomaterials for clinical application/certification.
