Personal Information
Alkiviadis Tsamis was born in 1979 in Athens. He is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Western Macedonia (Kozani, Greece). Prior to that, he was a Lecturer at University of Leicester’s School of Engineering and Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University’s Department of Biomedical Engineering. Also, he was a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Bioengineering and Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Stanford University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering under a fellowship by the Swiss National Science Foundation. He completed his Ph.D. in Biotechnology and Bioengineering at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne and obtained a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens. His work has been published in a variety of journals, including Nature Communications, Materials Science and Engineering, Aging Cell, Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials, Journal of Biomechanics, and American Journal of Physiology. His research focuses on integration of multi-scale experimental and computational techniques to investigate structural mechanisms which are indicative of development of damage in fibre-reinforced soft biological materials.
